Massa improves, Renault appeals

Doctors at the Hungarian hospital where Felipe Massa is being treated said the Brazilian’s condition is improving at a press conference Monday.

F1 Grand Prix of Hungary - Race

Massa has been awakened and has spoken, and it has been suggested he can make a full recovery. Previous reports of eye damage have been denied for the time being, as at this point Massa cannot open the eye, so examination is not possible.

Doctors suggested lasting injury could be determined after a week to ten days.

Luca di Montezemolo, who visited Massa Monday, said the team was in no rush to name a replacement, as all attention was on Massa for the moment. Doctors believe a return for Massa this season is unlikely.

Internet rumblings have Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso on a short list to replace Massa. Marc Gene would seem a more likely choice.

Renault appeals race ban

No Surprise, Renault has filed an appeal of the decision to ban the team from the European Grand Prix following the Fernando Alonso wheel nut incident.

The team now has eight days to file grounds for its appeal.

Internet rumors have Valencia organizers and Bernie Ecclestone as unhappy with the decision to ban Alonso’s team from one of his two home races, but the FIA may be a tough nut to crack following the incidents involving Felipe Massa and Henry Surtees.
