F1 odds and ends for 8/14/09

Montreal may really be nearing a deal to secure the return of the Canadian Grand Prix.

Bernie Ecclestone has made noise about the race’s return to the calendar, and now Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay says chances of the race being staged in June 2010 are looking “very good.”

Canadian Formula One Grand Prix: Practice

"There are still certain commitments which have been made that have to be refined," ITV-F1 reports he told The Canadian Press. "Right now, we're trying to finalise this agreement in the best interests of Montreal."

The FIA’s official calendar will be revealed in September.

Meanwhile, the other track which recently staged a North American grand prix may be looking at adding a sports car race to its schedule.

Grand-Am has scheduled a test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
for early September, Autoweek reports.

The series may be interested in adding a race at IMS for the 2011 schedule. Currently the track’s road course, built for F1, is only being used for MotoGP.

“We are very excited to have this opportunity to see the performance of our sports cars at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” Autoweek quotes Grand-Am president Roger Edmonds. “I look forward to the overall reaction from our participants, fans and media and determining the future possibility of our series competing at this iconic facility.”

Montagny in for IndyCar one-off

Franck Montagny is slated to run for Andretti Green Racing at this year’s IndyCar event at Sears Point.

The ex-F1er, who had a cup of tea with Super Aguri in 2006, will drive a fifth car for the team in what may be an audition to replace Danica Patrick should she leave at the end of the season.
