Renault wins appeal, in for Valencia

Renault will race in the European Grand Prix after winning an appeal of its one race suspension.

F1 Grand Prix of Hungary - Race

Race stewards had banned the team from the race as a result of Fernando Alonso’s improperly attached right front wheel coming off after his first pitstop in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

AUTOSPORT reports the team claimed no conscious wrongdoing in the incident, however, saying the only people who knew about the problem were the mechanics on that wheel, and there wasn’t time to warn the pitwall.

An FIA statement reveals Renault admitted it breached the regulations by releasing the car without ensuring it was safe to do so, but asked the court to reconsider the severity of the breach.

The FIA Court of Appeal upheld the appeal and instead issued a fine a reprimand.

The full FIA statement.

As always, the FIA will issue its complete decision in a few days. Don't miss the top stories of the day, subscribe to the SpeedRead Web newspaper now! -- Email SpeedRead -- Learn more about author C.D. Six
