YouTube on board with US F1

YouTube CEO Chad Hurley has been officially revealed as a “primary investor” with the new Ken Anderson/Peter Windsor run Team US F1.

DLD Conference 2009

The North Carolina-based squad is slated to make its debut in 2010, and hopes to have its Cosworth-powered car on track by November.

Hurley founded YouTube along with Steve Chen and Jawed Karim in 2005 and sold it to Google a year later for US$1.65 billion.

"I am thrilled to be a part of America's first Formula One team in more than 40 years," Hurley is quoted by the Associated Press from a statement. "Getting in on the ground floor of a project of this size and scope is a tremendous opportunity, and I look forward to helping shape the US F1 vision and corporate strategy for years to come."

Quali changes (again)

Qualifying will once again change in 2010 to accommodate the expanded, 26 car field.

Eight cars each will be eliminated in Q1 and Q2, leaving it a ten car shootout for the final ten minutes of qualifying.

But the big change is with no refueling in races, all cars in the final session will run with light fuel loads, so the grid will be determined more by speed than strategy.
