Germany: Practice

As expected, rain greeted the drivers at Hockenheim for the morning session.Adrian Sutil took top honors, followed by Felipe Massa, who put in one of his famous wild rides in the wet to finish second, and Jenson Button in third.

Lewis Hamilton stole the show, however, losing his McLaren in the slippery conditions and damaging all four corners of the car and severely hampering his running time with the new blown difuser.

July 23, 2010 - Hockenheim, GERMANY - epa02258415 The car of British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton of McLaren Mercedes is lifted on a truck after Hamilton was forced out during the first training session at the Hockenheimring race track in Hockenheim, Germany, 22 July 2010. The German Formula One Grand Prix will take place in Hockenheim on 25 July.

McLaren’s mechanics were hard at work, however, managing to rebuild the car and get him back out for the tail end of the second session.

A drying track meant drivers could get to the serious business. At end of day it was Fernando Alonso taking the top spot, pursued by the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel, Massa in the second Ferrari and Mark Webber in the second Red Bull.
