Petrov grid penalty in Korea

Renault’s Vitaly Petrov, trying to prove his value to the team in the remaining races of the season, will have to do it with a five-spot disadvantage in Korea after stewards in Japan decided he caused an avoidable collision at the start of the Japanese Grand Prix.

Stewards rejected Petrov's claim he was avoiding Nick Heidfeld's BMW Sauber when he touched the front wheel of Nico Hulkenberg's Williams and spun into the wall. Both cars retired.

A separate incident at the start that led to the retirements of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and Force India’s Vitantonio Liuzzi was also investigated. No action was taken.
