Race prep: Canada

"My favourite thing about Canada is the laid-back attitude of the fans, which makes the atmosphere very good. The track has traditionally thrown up very interesting races due to the street circuit layout and because the low downforce configuration that we race in provides some good overtaking. It’s always nice to get the feeling that there’s a GP in town even when we’re away from the track and that’s certainly the case in Montreal."

- Mark Webber

WMSC decisions: The good, the bad, and the ugly

The good

The United States Grand Prix is back. The FIA revealed its 2012 schedule (a 21-race monstrosity that is sure not to sit well with the teams), including the return of the USGP in Austin. While the FIA continues to prove it has no concept of world climates (June in Texas is a hot. blazing nightmare), what a joy to know the circus will once again be coming to the States June 17, one week after Canada as part of a swing through North America.

The bad

The FIA approved its new engine rules, but left the door open to postponing the introduction of the rules should the "main stakeholders" vote to do so. I, for one, don't fear a move to screaming 1.6 litre turbos, but considering the amount of noise the teams and Bernie are making, it's a safe bet introduction of these power units will not be happening anytime soon.

The ugly

"After considering all the factors and taking into consideration all stakeholders’ concerns, the WMSC unanimously agreed to reinstate the Bahrain Grand Prix in the 2011 FIA Formula One World Championship.

This decision reflects the spirit of reconciliation in Bahrain, which is evident from the strong support the race receives from the Government and all major parties in Bahrain, including the largest opposition group, all of whom endorse the Formula One Grand Prix and motor sport in the country. The WMSC feels that reinstating the Grand Prix is a means of helping to unite people as the country looks to move forward, and also recognises the commitment made by the Formula One teams, their employees and families, and personnel associated with the Championship including the local team of volunteers who are so vital to the event."
